Job summary

Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a School Resource Officer for Augusta RYDC in Augusta, GA. The role performs security and law enforcement duties within a detention facility educational setting, including classroom walkthroughs, student supervision, and coordination of safety drills.

The position requires Georgia POST certification, a high school diploma or GED, and preferred experience as a School Resource Officer with supervisory capability.

Qualifications

• GA P.O.S.T. certified peace officer (PBLE) in good standing as defined by GAPOST Council.
• Undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology or related field.
• One year or more of experience as a School Resource Officer; three years of experience as a Peace Officer with POST certification; two or more years of supervisory experience in police or investigative work.

Responsibilities

• Performs a full range of law enforcement duties to maintain security in a detention facility educational setting.
• Provide security clearance for students entering secure areas; monitor movement during breaks and sessions.
• Regularly conduct walkthroughs of classrooms, hallways and school offices.
• Address students who are disruptive, inappropriately dressed, late, or absent.
• Facilitate safety drills as required by Georgia Preparatory Academy.
• Inspect areas for contraband or safety breaches after movements and sessions.
• Monitor security equipment and cameras and report issues promptly.
• Meet with supervisors and staff to increase student involvement.
• Plan weekly student success meetings with students, education, and probation; assist in monthly parent meetings.
• Stand for extended periods as part of duties.
• Facilitate group discussions on law enforcement topics.
