Job summary

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a School Resource Officer for Macon RYDC in Macon, GA. You will perform full law enforcement duties to maintain security in a detention educational setting and coordinate with staff to support student success.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training; POST/GAPOST certification and SRO or Peace Officer experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High school diploma or GED and completion of Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training.
• Preferred: POST/GAPOST certification and supervisory experience.
• Preferred: 1+ year as SRO; 3+ years as Peace Officer; 2+ years supervisory in law enforcement.

Responsibilities

• Perform a full range of law enforcement duties to maintain security in a detention facility educational setting.
• Provide security clearance for students entering secure areas during sessions and breaks.
• Regularly walk through classrooms, hallways, and school offices.
• Address disruptive students and those not appropriately dressed, late, or absent.
• Facilitate safety drills as required.
• Inspect areas for contraband and safety breaches after movements and breaks.
• Monitor security equipment and cameras, reporting issues promptly.
• Meet with supervisors and education staff to increase student involvement.
• Plan weekly student success meetings with students, education, and probation; coordinate monthly parent meetings.
• Stand for extended periods while performing duties.
• Facilitate group discussions on various law enforcement topics.
