Job summary

Alamance County Government seeks a School Resource Officer to act as a liaison between school administrators, faculty, students and community resources. The role emphasizes visibility, safety, and collaboration with school staff and the Sheriff’s Office within the Alamance Burlington School System.

The SRO must have strong communication, judgement and integrity. A typical schedule mirrors a standard 40-hour week, with training and duties across local and out-of-state programs as required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 20 years of age.
• Must be out of the 12-month law enforcement probationary period.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
• Must be able to pass Oral Interview, Background Check, Polygraph Examination and Drug Screening.
• Two (2) years’ experience with duties closely related to the School Resource Officer position, already certified as a SRO or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Associates or Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field.

Responsibilities

• Assembles required documents and information as needed for the School Resource Division.
• Obtains and maintains certifications applicable for the position.
• Reports to duty on time and has regular attendance.
• Maintains the confidence and trust of students, peers, school staff, superiors and the general public.
• Carries out any or all other duties as directed by the Sheriff or his designee.
• Attends training that is relevant to the School Resource Officer position (local and out of state).
• Uses discretion effectively to determine a proper course of action consistent with the Alamance Burlington School System policies and the department’s mission and values.
