Job summary

Kitchen Assistant position with Douglas County School District supports the daily school lunch program. The role involves preparing and serving meals, maintaining HACCP standards, following recipes and portion sizes, and ensuring proper temperatures.

You will interact with Nutrition Services staff, teachers, students, and parents to promote positive community relations. Responsibilities include POS operation, cash reconciliation, proper food handling, and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work collaboratively with stakeholders to support positive outcomes.
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
• Maintains a generally positive attitude and follows District policies.
• Strong organizational and time management skills are required.
• Ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions in English.

Responsibilities

• Serve meals daily and ensure compliance with school food regulations and HACCP standards.
• Follow menu/recipe instructions and ensure proper temperatures, appearance, and portions.
• Assist in unloading and storage of delivered food items.
• Learn and operate Point of Sale system and reconcile monies.
• Build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents, providing good customer service.
• Communicate effectively in writing and verbally while maintaining student confidentiality.
• Complete USDA Mandatory Professional Standards training and stay updated on regulatory changes.
• Assist with setup and cleanup of serving areas and maintain sanitation.
• Travel to multiple schools as needed and adapt to varying schedules.
