Job summary

Talladega City Schools in Alabama seeks a Desktop Technology Technician to diagnose and repair campus computer hardware, software, and peripheral devices. The role includes supporting Student Management and Library applications, installing equipment, and guiding staff on technology use.

Responsibilities also cover network maintenance, data collection for reports, supervising technicians, and assisting with new technologies under the Coordinator of Operations.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate, or equivalent; Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Prefer formal technical training experience; A+ certification, MSCE, Novell CNA/CNE or CISCO certification.
  • Experience diagnosing, repairing and solving computer hardware, printer and software problems.
  • Experience with configuring and operating LANs, servers, network adapters, hubs and switches.
  • Extensive knowledge of Internet applications, database applications, HTML and programming preferred.
  • Experience with office automation applications, Email, Microsoft Office products or similar software preferred.
  • Prefer experience with student management applications and educational software.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and solve campus network issues, PC computer hardware and software problems.
  • Assist with the technical and operational issues of the Student Management and Library application software.
  • Assist with the installation of new computer equipment and software.
  • Communicate effectively with school faculty and staff to describe maintenance procedures, to provide understandable instructions, and to describe features of the school’s computer systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance on computer systems (cleaning, testing, alignment, etc.).
  • Perform repairs and upgrades in accordance to manufacture suggested guidelines (installing software, software upgrades or patches, replacing disk drives, circuit boards/adapters and other peripheral devices).
  • Install and configure network related equipment, cables and communication devices.
  • Assist with the collection of data for the district office and state reports.
  • Follow supervisor instructions and perform all tasks assigned.
  • Process and update technical work orders.
  • Execute all other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Coordinator of Operations.
  • Supervise computer technicians and management of work requests for technical assistance or hardware problems.
  • Supervise and manage the installation and configuration of local area networks and wide-area networks, including file servers, switches, and routers.
  • Responsible for establishing security features for the network environment.
  • Supervise and manage Internet access for the school district including configurations for workstations, file servers, and switches.
  • Manage Email access for school district employees and students.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and effect repairs for hardware and software problems associated with the network.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance on computer hardware and software needs to all faculty and staff.
  • Work cooperatively with the Coordinator of Operations in the areas of acquiring and implementing new technologies and the development of training modules for effective use of technologies by faculty, staff, and students.
  • Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
