Job summary

Somerset County Public Schools CENTRAL OFFICE in Westover, Maryland seeks an Information Technology Supervisor to lead the IT department, manage network infrastructure, cybersecurity, and technology projects.

The role blends hands-on technical work with people leadership, responsible for security, reliability, budgets, documentation, and disaster recovery, reporting to the district CIO.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of information technology experience with focus on network management, cybersecurity, and systems administration.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred; Master’s degree preferred.
• Relevant certifications from Microsoft, Dell, Apple, HPE Aruba, or Palo Alto preferred.
• Must have valid driver’s license for travel to the county.

Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise, and develop an IT team responsible for maintaining district technology systems.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate IT goals, policies, and procedures.
• Oversee day-to-day IT operations, tickets, and project delivery.
• Ensure stable, secure, and efficient network infrastructure (broadband, wired, wireless).
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot, and optimize network speed and security.
• Manage network hardware/software configurations with strong security/compliance.
• Oversee cybersecurity strategy to protect data and resources from threats.
• Stay current on threats and mitigate risks and vulnerabilities.
• Plan and manage technology projects, including upgrades and deployments.
• Develop timelines, budgets, and project plans; ensure on-time completion.
• Maintain documentation for systems, networks, and procedures.
• Review and update disaster recovery and backup procedures.
• Represent the district in CIO User Group activities.
