Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking a custodial worker to maintain cleanliness in school buildings and grounds. Training on cleaning tools, equipment, and safety will be provided.

Essential tasks include cleaning cafeterias, bathrooms, classrooms, and common areas; setting up for events; securing doors at the end of the day; and performing related duties as required. Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds and frequent walking.

Qualifications

• GED or some high school is required.
• High School Diploma is preferred; some custodial experience is a plus.
• Ability to read and understand English and follow directions.

Responsibilities

• Clean the cafeteria after lunch, mop floors and realign chairs.
• Pick up paper and trash in bathrooms and hallways; clean spills.
• Vacuum floors, wash windows, and clean walls as needed.
• Set up rooms for PTA events and other meetings; reset for next day.
• Secure and lock all classrooms and outside doors at day’s end.
• Perform related custodial tasks as required.
