Job summary

St. Martin’s Episcopal School seeks a Controller/Business Manager to join the Business Office, overseeing daily accounting operations, financial reporting, cash management, internal controls, and audit preparation.

Reporting to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer, this 12‑month, full-time role works with administrators, families, and vendors to ensure accurate records and compliant processes, using Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
• 2–5 years of accounting experience; supervisory experience is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliations, AP and AR.
• Experience with nonprofit or fund accounting including restricted funds and endowments.
• Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
• A commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, professionalism, and collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and student billing.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, budget reports, reconciliations, and financial analyses.
• Supervise and support accounting staff while promoting accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration.
• Assist with annual budget development and work with school leadership to monitor departmental budgets.
• Manage cash flow and support sound financial planning.
• Oversee payroll accounting, benefits-related financial transactions, and retirement plan deposits.
• Maintain effective internal controls and compliance with applicable financial and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate annual audit preparation and assist with required tax filings and financial reporting.
• Maintain accurate financial records and support the effective use of Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and other accounting systems.
• Partner with administrators, employees, families, and vendors to provide responsive and professional service.
