Job summary

YMCA of Central New York is seeking a Site Assistant for our School Age Child Care program. The position supports the Site Coordinator in planning activities, supervising children aged 5–12, promoting safety, and delivering a positive, structured daily routine.

Hourly wage is $16.00 with options for additional shifts during half-days, inclement weather, and vacation camp. Employment requires OCFS clearance, fingerprinting, and initial medical/tuberculin screening within 30 days.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Substantial experience working with children under 13.
• Must be at least 16 years old; some sites may require 18.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Bring maturity, responsibility and a sincere interest in working with people.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate activities and expectations of children ages 5 to 12.
• OCFS licensing requirements include fingerprinting, SCR/SCL clearance within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Assist Site Coordinator in planning lessons and activities (arts, crafts, music, drama, games, sports).
• Observe program guidelines and NYS OCFS regulations when planning activities.
• Greet children and parents by name; extend thanks when appropriate.
• Promote and lead annual family events and retention initiatives.
• Be ready to work at designated times and stay until children leave.
• Conduct the program in the Site Coordinator's absence.
• Keep site and program areas clean and organized; ensure safety.
• Provide a safe, healthy, moral and fun environment for all children.
• Model YMCA values: respect, responsibility, caring, honesty; teach teamwork and sportsmanship.
• Provide wholesome daily snacks; incorporate menus into lesson plans.
• Submit accident reports and discuss incidents with parents for signatures.
• Maintain positive relationships with staff, parents, and community; escalate issues.
• Attend staff meetings and required trainings; follow policies.
