Job summary

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) seeks a School-Age Educator to facilitate PK-12 educational programs and promote CBMM’s mission through high-quality classroom experiences. This part-time, hourly position supports CBMM’s goal of expanding the number of school children served annually.

Responsibilities include delivering programs, orienting groups on campus, and assisting with teacher workshops and open houses, with flexible scheduling during school days.

Qualifications

  • Enthusiastic and adaptable teacher who enjoys working with children from preschool to high school.
  • Experience teaching children of various ages in formal or informal settings.
  • Passion for the Chesapeake Bay and its people.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to foster positive work relationships with CBMM staff and volunteers; problem-solve calmly.

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) explores and preserves the history,environmentand culture of the Chesapeake Bay region, and makes this resource accessible to all. As an educational institution, staff carries out CBMM’s mission,goalsand vision, working individually and collaboratively to encourage the public’s access to our collections, programs, and resources.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

TheSchool‐Age Educator is instrumental infacilitatingthe Education Department's programsfor PK‑12 students, promoting CBMM’s mission through high‐quality educational programming.CBMM is committed to doubling the number of school children it serves annually, and theSchool‐Age Educator plays a vital rolebyfostering a positive learning environment forall school‐age visitors.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver school‐age programs at CBMM and in classrooms.

This position is part‐time, hourly, and based on the demand for CBMM school‐ageprograms. Most programs will take place during the school day, Monday through Friday.

All staff of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museumisexpected to be available toworka flexibleschedule.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Enthusiastic, adaptable, and effective teacher who enjoys working with childrenfrompreschool to high school.
  • Experience teaching children of various ages in formal or informal learning environments.
  • Passion for the Chesapeake Bay and its people.
  • Degree in education, museum studies, history, environmental science, or related fielddesirable.
  • Familiarity with formal and informal learning theory, Common Core and Maryland StateCurriculum standardspreferred.
  • Ability to foster positive work relationships with CBMM staff, superiors, and volunteers, andproblem solve and respond positively and calmly to program changes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to work with students on CBMM’s 18‐acre campus, exhibits, boats, anddocks, in varied weather conditions.
