Job summary

Healthy Kids Programs is hiring a School-Age Childcare Assistant for the Before and After School Programs at Marian E. McKeown Elementary School in Newton, NJ for the 2026-2027 school year.

The position is part-time and non-exempt, following the school calendar with morning and/or afternoon shifts. Pay is $16.00 per hour, with employer-paid childcare benefits and opportunities to support student growth through engaging activities.

• Background checks must be passed.
• Ability to meet physical demands (bend, stretch, lift up to 50 pounds).
• Positive, professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills with children, families, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate hands-on activities following the Healthy Kids Curriculum (fitness, STEAM, academic, art, etc.).
• Provide a safe, healthy, and fun environment and be a positive role model.
• Observe state guidelines, program policies, and host school rules.
• Some positions may handle attendance, registration, and staffing.

SCHEDULE: Follows the school calendar. Morning Program: 7:00 - 8:15 am. Afternoon Program: 3:00 - 6:00 pm. Opportunities available for morning, afternoon, or both programs.

Position Responsibilities

The Before and After School Program team is responsible for:

• Facilitating hands-on activities following the Healthy Kids Curriculum which includes fitness, STEAM, academic, art, and other group activities as well as homework completion.
• Providing a safe, healthy, and fun environment and acting as a positive role model for children in the program.
• Observing state guidelines, Healthy Kids Extended Day Program policies, and host school policies.
• Certain positions may also perform management functions such as accurate attendance records, registration, and staffing.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma and/or 1 year of childcare experience preferred but not required

QUALIFICATIONS

• Candidates must successfully pass all required state background checks.
• Requires the ability to meet physical demands, including bending, stretching, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds, and actively engaging with energetic children.
• The ideal candidate demonstrates a positive, professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills when working with children, families, and colleagues, along with a consistent record of reliability and punctuality.
