Job summary

The YMCA of Delaware is seeking a School Age Site Intern at the Walnut YMCA Family Location to supervise and support youth in an after-school setting. The role ensures safe, developmentally appropriate care and active participation in daily activities and family nights.

Rate of pay is $15.00 per hour, with eligibility-based 12% retirement, learning workshops, and opportunities for career advancement. Four-year-old and child-care experience preferred, flexible scheduling available.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Must meet one of: 3 college credits or 15 clock-hours training in relevant area.
• Be four years older than any child in direct care.
• Pass physical and TB screening with physician’s documentation within 30 days of hire.
• Criminal history and child/adult abuse background checks as required by Delaware law.
• Strong listening, patience, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children and activities as assigned, maintaining safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Provide daily care for children including feeding and supporting social/emotional needs.
• Engage children in classroom activities, meals, transitions, and gross motor moments.
• Plan and participate in age-appropriate activities to support learning opportunities.
• Observe and document children’s progress and development.
