Job summary

Associated Recreation Council seeks a School-Age Care Counselor for after-school programs in Seattle, serving ages 5-12 at West Seattle sites including High Point Community Center, Genesee Hill ES and Lafayette ES. Part-time roles up to 23 hours/week with possible summer work; some flexibility in schedule.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
• MMR vaccination record, TB testing, and Washington DCYF checks after hire.

• Models appropriate behavior and supports social and emotional growth.
• Helps maintain staff-to-child ratio of 1:10 where possible for safety.

Schedule

• Monday-Friday during after-school hours, up to 23 hours per week during the school year

School-Age Care Counselor Duties

• Assists and leads in the application of daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12 years old.
• Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth.
• Helps ensure a ratio of 1:10 (staff to children) is maintained as much as possible to ensure that children are safe and always accounted for.
• Collaborates with and supports fellow School-Age Care staff and receives guidance, coaching, and direction from the ARC School-Age Care Director.

School-Age Care Counselor Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
• MMR vaccination record, tuberculosis (TB) testing, MERIT Portable Background Check, and Washington State Food Worker Cardare required after being hired as required by the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).(ARC will assist you through these requirements and pay the fees associated with the TB testing.)
