Job summary

Associated Recreation Council (ARC) seeks a School-Age Care Lead Counselor for West Seattle and other Seattle community centers. You will guide a classroom of children ages 5-12, providing active supervision and developmentally appropriate activities.

Join ARC in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation to offer licensed childcare, engaging programs, and a safe, inclusive after-school environment. Requires 18+, HS diploma, and 1 year of childcare experience.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
• Must have a year of prior experience in school-age childcare.
• DCYF requirements include MMR vaccination, TB test, MERIT Background Check, and WA Food Worker Card; ARC pays fees.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead daily curriculum activities for children ages 5-12.
• Model appropriate behavior and support social and emotional growth.
• Maintain 1:10 staff-to-child ratio where possible for safety and accounting.
• Collaborate with ARC School-Age Care Director and receive guidance.
• Support director in more advanced daily operations.

Position Type: Part-time, non-exempt (hourly, eligible for overtime)

Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible

Starting pay: $23.00/hr.

Full Pay Range: $23.00-26.45/hr. (the employee in this position could earn up to $26.45/hr. with additional years of employment)

Position Overview

If you have experience working with school-age children ages 5-12 and enjoy creating engaging experiences that support their learning, development, and well-being, Associated Recreation Council (ARC) has a role for you as a School-Age Care Lead Counselor. Our West Seattle locations are listed below, but we're hiring for these roles in community centers in every Seattle region.

ARC, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, serves Seattle by offering access to licensed childcare and a variety of recreational and lifelong learning programs, classes, and activities. In this role, you will guide and support a classroom of children ages 5-12 by providing active supervision, implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging after-school environment.

Our programs provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play, and grow.

West Seattle Location(s)

• Genesee Hill Elementary School

Schedule

• Monday-Friday during after-school hours, up to 23 hours per week during the school year
• May work summers as well
• Due to your schedule, you can work some or all of these days; please let us know
• Schedules may vary based on availability and program needs

School-Age Care Lead Counselor Duties

• Assists and leads in the application of daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12 years old.
• Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth.
• Helps ensure a ratio of 1:10 (staff to children) is maintained as much as possible to ensure that children are safe and always accounted for.
• Collaborates with and supports fellow School-Age Care staff and receives guidance, coaching, and direction from the ARC School-Age Care Director.
• Directly supports the School-Age Care Director in more advanced daily operations with greater responsibilities.

School-Age Care Counselor Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
• Must have a year of prior experience in school-age childcare. Strong preference for experience in a licensed program.
• MMR vaccination record, tuberculosis (TB) testing, MERIT Portable Background Check, and Washington State Food Worker Card are required after being hired as required by the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). (ARC will assist you through these requirements and pay the fees associated with the TB testing.)
