Job summary

Associated Recreation Council (ARC) offers after-school programs at Northgate Community Center and partner sites in Seattle. This part-time School-Age Care Counselor role provides active supervision for children ages 5-12, implementing engaging activities to support learning and wellbeing.

Work hours are after school with potential for extra shifts in summer; the program emphasizes a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment and collaboration with ARC staff and partners.

Qualifications

• Must have experience working with school-age children (5-12) and creating engaging activities.
• Ability to supervise and support groups in a safe, inclusive environment.
• Willingness to complete required background checks and health screenings after hire.

Responsibilities

Starting pay: $22.00/hr.

Full Pay Range: $22.00-25.30/hr. (the employee in this position could earn up to $25.30/hr. with additional years of employment)

Our North Seattle locations are listed below, but we're hiring for these roles in community centers in every Seattle region.

ARC, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, serves Seattle by offering access to licensed childcare and a variety of recreational and lifelong learning programs, classes, and activities. In this role, you will guide and support a classroom of children ages 5-12 by providing active supervision, implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging after-school environment.

Our programs provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play, and grow.

North Seattle Locations

• Broadview-Thomson K-8 School
• John Rogers Elementary School
• McGilvra Elementary School
• Northgate Community Center
• Thornton Creek Elementary School
• Wedgwood Elementary School

Schedule

• Monday-Friday during after-school hours, up to 23 hours per week during the school year
• May work summers as well
• Due to your schedule, you can work some or all of these days; please let us know
• Schedules may vary based on availability and program needs

School-Age Care Counselor Duties

• Assists and leads in the application of daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12 years old.
• Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth.
• Helps ensure a ratio of 1:10 (staff to children) is maintained as much as possible to ensure that children are safe and always accounted for.
• Collaborates with and supports fellow School-Age Care staff and receives guidance, coaching, and direction from the ARC School-Age Care Director.

School-Age Care Counselor Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
• MMR vaccination record, tuberculosis (TB) testing, MERIT Portable Background Check, and Washington State Food Worker Cardare required after being hired as required by the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).(ARC will assist you through these requirements and pay the fees associated with the TB testing.)
