Job summary

Associated-Recreation-Council in Seattle seeks a School-Age Care Counselor for after-school programs at Queen Anne Community Center and Northwest Seattle sites. This part-time, non-exempt role supports children ages 5-12 with engaging activities and safe supervision.

You’ll work Monday–Friday after school, up to 23 hours weekly, with potential summer shifts. Minimums include 18+, a HS diploma, and required health checks; ARC covers some fees.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
• MMR vaccination record, tuberculosis testing, MERIT Portable Background Check, and Washington State Food Worker Card required after hire; ARC pays fees.

Responsibilities

• Assists and leads in the application of daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12.
• Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth.
• Helps ensure a 1:10 staff-to-child ratio is maintained to keep children safe and accounted for.
• Collaborates with and supports fellow School-Age Care staff under supervision of the ARC Director.

Position Type: Part-time, non-exempt (hourly, eligible for overtime)

Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible

Starting pay: $22.00/hr.

Full Pay Range: $22.00-25.30/hr. (the employee in this position could earn up to $25.30/hr. with additional years of employment)

• Catharine Blaine K-8 School
• Queen Anne Community Center

Schedule

• Monday-Friday during after-school hours, up to 23 hours per week during the school year
• May work summers as well
• Due to your schedule, you can work some or all of these days; please let us know
• Schedules may vary based on availability and program needs

School-Age Care Counselor Duties

• Assists and leads in the application of daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12 years old.
• Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth.
• Helps ensure a ratio of 1:10 (staff to children) is maintained as much as possible to ensure that children are safe and always accounted for.
• Collaborates with and supports fellow School-Age Care staff and receives guidance, coaching, and direction from the ARC School-Age Care Director.

School-Age Care Counselor Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
• MMR vaccination record, tuberculosis (TB) testing, MERIT Portable Background Check, and Washington State Food Worker Card are required after being hired as required by the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). (ARC will assist you through these requirements and pay the fees associated with the TB testing.)
