Job summary

Associated Recreation Council (ARC) invites applications for a School‑Age Care Counselor at Wedgwood Elementary School in Seattle. The role supports after‑school learning and play for children aged 5–12, with active supervision and developmentally appropriate activities in a safe, inclusive environment.

You'll guide a classroom, model positive behavior, and work to maintain a 1:10 staff‑to‑child ratio under the ARC School‑Age Care Director's direction.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
• MMR vaccination record, TB testing, MERIT Portable Background Check, and Washington State Food Worker Card required after hiring.

Responsibilities

• Assist and lead in daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12.
• Model appropriate behavior and provide opportunities for social and emotional growth.
• Help maintain a staff-to-child ratio of 1:10 to ensure safety and accountability.
• Collaborate with ARC School-Age Care Director and fellow staff.

Starting pay: $22.00/hr.

Full Pay Range: $22.00-25.30/hr. (the employee in this position could earn up to $25.30/hr. with additional years of employment)

If you have experience working with school‑age children ages 5-12 and enjoy creating engaging experiences that support their learning, development, and well‑being,Associated Recreation Council (ARC)has a role for you as aSchool‑Age Care Counselor.

ARC, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, serves Seattle by offering access to licensed childcare and a variety of recreational and lifelong learning programs, classes, and activities. In this role, you will guide and support a classroom of children ages 5-12 by providing active supervision, implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging after‑school environment.

Our programs provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play, and grow.

Location:

• Wedgwood Elementary School - 2720 NE 85th St Seattle, WA 98115
• Primary location is Ravenna‑Eckstein Community Center, but the program is delivered out of Wedgwood Elementary School

Schedule:

• Monday-Friday during after‑school hours, up to 23 hours per week during the school year
• May work summers as well
• Due to your schedule, you can work some or all of these days; please let us know
• Schedules may vary based on availability and program needs

School‑Age Care Counselor Duties:

• Assists and leads in the application of daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12 years old.
• Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth.
• Helps ensure a ratio of 1:10 (staff to children) is maintained as much as possible to ensure that children are safe and always accounted for.
• Collaborates with and supports fellow School‑Age Care staff and receives guidance, coaching, and direction from the ARC School‑Age Care Director.

School‑Age Care Counselor Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
• MMR vaccination record, tuberculosis (TB) testing, MERIT Portable Background Check, and Washington State Food Worker Cardare required after being hired as required by the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).(ARC will assist you through these requirements and pay the fees associated with the TB testing.)
