Job summary

Gerdau North America in Murray, KY, is seeking a Scale Operator to monitor and assist in controlling incoming and outgoing vehicles, shipments and containers using scale and software systems. All activity must be accurately documented on scale tickets, bills of lading, purchase orders and packing slips.

You will work with dispatch and yard operations, coordinate with drivers and customers, and ensure precise recordkeeping, payments, and compliance with safety and PPE requirements.

Qualifications

• Basic MS Office skills and reliable documentation practices.
• Strong communication with customers, carriers, and drivers.
• Ability to multitask at a fast pace while maintaining accuracy.
• Excellent telephone skills for coordinating with clients.
• Ability to identify materials and plan distribution on scale.
• High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and direct inbound loads to correct locations.
• Document scale transactions including weights and discharge location.
• Maintain records of purchases and sales with order numbers.
• Process scale payments and adjust contracts as directed.
• Issue and submit cheques with proper documentation.
• Issue cash payments when needed.
• Manage difficult customer situations professionally.
• Answer main phone line and route calls.
• Maintain radio contact with yard personnel and respond to emergencies.
• Enforce PPE requirements and safe work procedures.
• Monitor yard arm and keep work area organized.
• File scale tickets daily and end of shift.
• Weigh in public scale tickets and handle cash/billing.
• Daily cash reconciliation.
