Job summary

Gerdau in Murray, Kentucky seeks a Scale Operator to monitor and control incoming and outgoing vehicles, shipments, and containers. You will document all activity on scale tickets, bills of lading, and packing slips, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.

Directly reporting to the Division Manager, you will collaborate with dispatch, yard staff, and drivers, maintaining safe procedures and precise record-keeping to support efficient material flow and customer service.

Qualifications

• This position requires basic MS Office skills and good communication.
• Ability to multitask at a fast pace in a positive manner.
• Excellent telephone skills are required.
• Effective communication with customers, carriers, and company drivers is essential.
• Ability to recognize materials and develop viable distribution plans at the scale.
• High School Diploma or GED is required; post-secondary education is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and determine material grade with necessary paperwork to direct loads.
• Weigh vehicles and record weights, IDs, contract numbers, material grade, and discharge location.
• Maintain daily records of purchases and sales, assign order numbers to inbound/outbound material.
• Process scale payments and communicate adjustments; fax scale tickets as requested.
• Create and submit cheques with backing and distribute as directed.
• Manage difficult customer situations professionally and promptly.
• Answer main telephone line and route calls appropriately.
• Maintain radio contact with yard personnel including emergency communications.
• Ensure safe work procedures and PPE compliance for all guests and staff.
• Keep scale house and workstations organized per 5S standards.
• Review, file, and fax scale tickets daily and as needed.
