Job summary

Marion County Public Works seeks a Scale Attendant to greet visitors and operate a computerized scale system at disposal sites in Salem, OR. You will weigh vehicles, issue tickets, handle payments, and maintain records while delivering excellent customer service in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities include calculating charges, making change, balancing paperwork, and ensuring cleanliness of scale areas.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferably with landfill/scale experience.
• One year experience in public relations, money handling and basic computer use.
• Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.

Responsibilities

• Operates a computerized scale system, types, inspects loads and determines correct rate to charge, visually confirms the information on the monitor, measures and computes volume, collect fees and make change, keeps accurate records, balances paperwork and completes closing paperwork for deposits as assigned.
• Interacts with a variety of personality types. Answers the telephone, uses calculator, Visa/MC authorization terminal, and various computer components.
• Maintains cleanliness of scale deck and approach, scale booth and surrounding area.
• Ability to climb up on vehicles to inspect loads.
• Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
• May participate in basic incident command training and drills to maintain proficiency in supporting EOC activities, including carrying out field work in connection with EOC operations. May be assigned clerical/support, incident liaison, or other duties at any location within or near the county. Emergency Management duties may require working long hours outside normal business hours, weekend/holiday work, and may occur with little or no advance notice.
