Job summary

The Marzetti Company is seeking sanitation team members for our T. Marzetti Top Quality Baking facility. You will ensure the plant and grounds are clean and safe, supporting safety, food safety and GMP initiatives on a daily basis.

Position requires standing for long periods, working overtime as needed, and operating cleaning equipment including forklift-related tasks. Weekend shifts are required.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively – verbally & written – with team members and management.
  • Basic math and reading comprehension for safe and accurate tasks.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior forklift experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support General Plant Safety, Food Safety, Food Defence Initiatives and GMPs as Priority #1.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of plant and grounds.
  • Clean all sanitation tasks following Seven Steps of Sanitation.
  • Visually inspect equipment sanitation and complete checklists.
  • Work with sanitation manager and quality control to correct deficiencies.
  • Assist in production setup and teardown for cleaning.
  • Follow SSOPs and HACCP requirements.

As a member of the Sanitation Department, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that our plant and grounds are clean and safe for everyone. You’ll handle the day-to-day functions of the sanitation department, making sure that our facilities are checked and cleaned daily. You’ll work with a team of dedicated professionals to consistently produce positive sanitation results that exceed our customers’ expectations.

$22.71/ hourly. Weekend is a must!

Responsibilities → What You'll Do
  • Support General Plant Safety, Food Safety, Food Defence Initiatives and Good Manufacturing Practices with an understanding that these are absolutes and are Priority #1.
  • Practices integrity, respect, accountability, continuous improvement and positive interactions with all Team Members and visitor
  • Clean all PIC and PEC tasks based on Seven Steps of Sanitation on all cleaning activities.
  • Visually inspect other equipment sanitor’s work and complete sanitation checklist following each wash.
  • Work directly with the sanitation manager and quality control technician to correct cleaning deficiencies that may exist after the inspection.
  • Keep the plant clean and organized.
  • Assist in tear-down and reassembly of equipment for deep cleaning.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, damage, or unsafe conditions immediately to a supervisor or Manager.
  • Assist in set-up for Production.
  • Suggest and assist with the implementation of new tools, methods, or equipment for improved cleaning.
  • Stay Current on updates to sanitation procedures, SSOPs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Must be able to successfully understand and operate the CIP system.
  • Provide feedback to supervisors regarding sanitation challenges, process improvements, or safety risks.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for recurring sanitation or microbiological issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve sanitation efficiency without compromising safety.
  • Understanding and use of cleaning chemicals. Aspects include safety, measurements, and applications of the chemical.
  • Responsible for establishing priorities and working independently without direct supervision.
  • Understand and follow hazard analysis and critical control points, (HACCP) and good manufacturing practices (GMP).
  • Apply basic math principles as they relate to product usage and dilution rates.
  • Follow safety rules as it relates to Personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Follow all safety and food safety policies and procedures.
  • Clean and Sanitize Baking /batching/ingredient prep equipment.
  • Clean all types of surfaces, from many different positions and angles. For example, underneath, in-between, above, or inside.
  • Understand and Perform tasks that require equipment safety, lockout/ tag out, and properly covering moisture-sensitive equipment tightly.
  • Properly Clean and Sanitize all equipment and surfaces in designated production areas.
  • Must pass company forklift training and maintain certification.
  • Train and retrain, when necessary, all sanitation employees
  • Required to operate Boom lift, Scissors lift, and Floor scrubber.
  • Required to understand and follow all SSOP’s.
  • Regular Attendance is required in accordance with Company attendance policy and procedures.
  • Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
  • Complete initial/annual training with Knowledge check to ensure the individual is properly qualified (QI) to perform all required job tasks as outlined in training programs/records.

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment requiring repetitive work preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively – verbally & written – and work well with Team Members and Management
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and good math skills are helpful.
  • Ability to read & interpret written & verbal direction while working in a safe, effective & productive manner within a fast-paced environment.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior forklift experience preferred.
Working Conditions/Environment
  • Works in a manufacturing environment where the Team Member is regularly required to speak, read, and comprehend, stand, walk, reach, lift, grasp, climb, and bend while working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds repetitively.
  • Stand for up to 12 hours with regular breaks.
  • May be required to work overtime, Holidays and/or weekends as needed.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to heat, fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, moving parts/equipment and non-toxic industrial waste and scrap.
  • SLIP-RESISTANT/Steel-toed SHOES, earplugs, safety glasses, hairnets, beard nets (if facial hair exists) and smocks are required to be worn/used in accordance with company GMP and Safety standards. Condition of these items must be inspected by employee daily and be replaced when no longer providing the optimal protection of the Team Member.
