Job summary

Meiji America is seeking a Sanitation Technician to maintain clean production areas in a fast-paced food manufacturing facility in York, PA. You will sanitize equipment, monitor chemical usage, and comply with GMP, OSHA, and safety policies.

The role requires reading labels in English, basic computer skills, ability to operate PIT equipment with training, and willingness to work shifts including weekends.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Sanitize production areas and equipment, following PPE requirements.
  • Evaluate sanitation effectiveness by visual inspection and chemical concentrations.
  • Complete pre-operational inspections and document findings.
  • Maintain GMP and Food Safety standards in all tasks.
  • Read MSS/SSOPs and SDS; follow safety rules and LOTO procedures.
  • Coordinate with team and supervisor on sanitation and pest control.
  • Log daily chemical usage and ensure proper storage and handling.
  • Train employees on sanitation procedures and programs.

Available Shifts
  • 1st: Sun-Thurs 7am-3pm (start rate $18.91 with 6m and 1 yr increase)
  • 2nd: Sun-Thurs 3pm-11pm (start rate $18.91 with shift differential and 6m and 1 yr increase)
  • 3rd: Sun-Thurs 11pm-7am (start rate $18.91 with shift differential and 6m and 1 yr increase)
  • Weekend 1st: Fri, Sat, Sun 7am-7pm (start rate $21.01 with and 6m and 1 yr increase)
  • Weekend 2nd: Fri, Sat, Sun 7pm-7am (start rate $21.01 with shift differential and 6m and 1 yr increase)
Essential Functions
  • Sanitize and clean production areas inside, out, underneath and at heights with chemicals & cleaning tools while wearing all appropriate PPEs in warm, moist environments
  • Evaluates sanitation effectiveness with visual inspection and chemical concentrations for program compliance
  • Complete pre-operational inspections of equipment and documents findings
  • Properly, accurately and timely complete all satiation documentation
  • Read and understand master sanitation schedule MSS, SSOPs, chemical labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Contribute to incident investigations (safety, food safety incidents, pest sightings, contaminations, allergen cross contact, non-conformances, complaints, audit findings, etc.)
  • Prepare production equipment for cleaning by following proper LOTO procedures
  • Responsible for disassembling, cleaning and sanitizing of all food-processing equipment, including storage areas, handling any and all line clean ups and the documentation for clean ups, enforcing all safety rules and regulations, monitoring the inventory of cleaning equipment and cleaning supplies
  • Maintain plant cleanliness in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety standards
  • Adhere to and practice all rules of Absolute Safety including by not limited to safety, food safety, LOTO, GMPs, etc.
  • Must be able to work in non-climate control (hot) environment
  • Coordinate supplies, equipment and contractor support for plant sanitation and pest control
  • Log and record daily chemical usage
  • Train employees in sanitation and sanitation related procedures and programs
  • Works with and communicates well with others, fostering a team atmosphere.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, organized work area at all times.
  • Attention to safety for themselves and others: checking areas of the line where others are working before starting equipment.
  • Able to clean all equipment entering the washroom by written procedure i.e. dismantle, proper protection of electrical components, clean effectively and reassemble with all guards, bolts and parts safely replaced. The equipment should be visibly clean.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all dry-cleaning procedures.
  • Capable of using all applicable classes of Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) with proper training and be able to maintain valid certification.
  • Perform simple mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to notify Supervision of any/all issues.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education

Preferred: High School graduate or GED.

On-the-job training provided for learning job responsibilities, SSOPs & MSS, LOTO, Chemical Training, GMP Policies and Procedures, Allergens Awareness Training, Safety Policy.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Cool, damp environment with temperatures around 25°F – 45°F
  • Warm, damp, and sometimes dry environments with temperatures between 80°F – 120°F
  • Stand/walk nearly 100% of the workday
  • Bend, stoop, crawl, reach, and lift various weights as needed
  • Frequently climb stairs, reach, twist, stack, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, squeeze, and bend
