Position Overview
The Sand Plant Superintendent is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of sand and gravel pits and aggregate production in Dover, DE. This includes customer service, supervision of personnel, quality assurance, and environmental compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to and follow all safety rules and regulations of MSHA/OSHA/DOT and Pennsy Supply, Inc.
- Conduct daily safety assignments (area inspections, pre-shifts, JSA’s, TRACK, etc).
- Report to Area Manager.
- Check daily with the plant operator on maintenance issues, obtain maintenance request forms, and prioritize and enter into the maintenance program for the quarry operations.
- Monthly budgetary forecasting.
- Conduct daily performance and safety meetings.
- Enter daily production metrics onto whiteboards or delegate to another team member.
- Review daily production data at shift start meeting, discuss discrepancies, mitigate problems, and celebrate successes.
- Kickoff production start and daily activities.
- Check employee timesheets, correct hours, coding, and equipment usage.
- Approve timesheets daily as required.
- Fill in as needed at any position in the quarry operations.
- Review stripping and production requirements daily, schedule accordingly.
- Ensure all employees and contractors on site follow safety policies.
- Continuously improve 5S practices and mindsets.
- Supervise stockpiling, review piles daily to determine material needs.
- Ensure plant operators perform hourly callouts, support this process by asking questions and responding to results.
- Maintain and review dust control procedures within the plant and on haul roads, mitigating problems as necessary.
- Review and follow up on daily plant inspections with plant operators.
- Create and review work orders with employees.
- Review quality control data for daily compliance and interact with quality control.
- Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment as needed.
- Purchase parts and maintain inventory.
- Ensure proper maintenance of pit haul roads.
- Inform employees and plant operators of daily and weekly mode changes.
- Monitor performance metrics and targets: TPH, Tons/Month, % Availability, OEE, STVC, R&M Spend.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance inspections at the site and plants.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must submit to a drug test and criminal background check.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Ability to work various times during day, night, or weekend hours at various locations.
Education/Experience
- High school Diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years of experience in the aggregate industry.
- 2 years of leadership experience.
