Garage Headquarters is seeking a Sales Director to lead and grow both sides of our business: residential garage door sales and service, and commercial door sales to contractors, property managers, and facility owners. This is a hands-on leadership role with full ownership of revenue across both channels — you will coach the sales team, keep the CRM accurate and current, and drive growth and retention across our top residential and commercial accounts.
The ideal candidate understands that residential and commercial sell differently — one is a fast, trust-driven homeowner decision; the other is a spec-driven, multi-stakeholder bid cycle — and can run both playbooks without letting either coast.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the combined residential and commercial sales plan — set targets by channel, territory, and rep, and report progress against them weekly.
- Recruit, train, and coach the sales team; run ride-alongs, call reviews, and regular one-on-ones.
- Own the CRM as the system of record: make sure every lead, account, contact, and opportunity is entered, current, and assigned to an owner; keep the pipeline and forecast accurate; and hold the team accountable for data quality and follow-up speed.
- Set and enforce pricing, discount, and margin guardrails; approve exceptions.
Residential Channel
- Drive in-home sales performance: lead response time, appointment-set rate, close rate, and average ticket.
- Build demand through referral programs, realtor relationships, and targeted local marketing, measuring lead volume and cost per lead by source.
- Work with the residential service manager to convert service and repair calls into full door, opener, and upgrade sales.
- Assign local home builder accounts to reps, and track repeat volume and retention for each builder.
- Ensure a consistent, professional homeowner experience from first call through post-install follow-up.
Commercial Channel
- Develop and manage relationships with general contractors, property managers, facility and maintenance directors, and municipal accounts.
- Pursue recurring preventive-maintenance and service agreements as a base of predictable revenue.
- Identify the top commercial accounts and assign each one to a specific sales rep, with clear growth and retention targets for every account.
- Measure account growth and retention monthly: review each assigned account’s revenue trend, repeat work, and service-agreement renewals with the rep, and step in early on accounts that are slipping.
- Drive targeted marketing to priority commercial segments and top accounts, and measure the results (leads, conversions, and revenue generated) so spend goes to the campaigns that work.
- Serve as the primary relationship owner with manufacturer partners on pricing, programs, co-op funds, and training.
- Keep the team current on product lines, manufacturer programs, and lead times.
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years of sales experience with at least 5 years leading or managing a sales team.
- Demonstrated success selling in both a consumer/in-home environment and a B2B or bid-driven environment, or clear evidence of the ability to run both.
- Comfort reviewing commercial proposals.
- Hands-on CRM proficiency, with a track record of enforcing data discipline across a sales team and using CRM reporting to manage accounts and forecast.
- Proven success growing and retaining key accounts, with the numbers to show it.
- Strong written and verbal communication; credible with homeowners and with contractors alike.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Preferred
- Experience in garage doors, overhead or rolling steel doors, dock equipment, or an adjacent building-products or specialty‑contracting trade.
- Experience with ServiceTitan or a comparable field‑service management platform.
- Familiarity with manufacturer programs and dealer networks (e.g., Clopay, Cornell, Cookson or similar).
- Knowledge of wind load requirements, fire‑rated door codes, and commercial submittal processes.
- Experience building a preventive‑maintenance or service‑agreement book of business.
Success in the First Year
- Both channels hitting or exceeding their revenue and margin targets.
- A fully staffed, trained sales team with defined territories and every top account assigned to an owner.
- A clean, current CRM that serves as the single source of truth for accounts, pipeline, and forecast.
- Top‑account retention at or above target, with measurable year‑over‑year revenue growth from assigned accounts.
- A reliable weekly forecast that management can plan and staff against.
- Measurable growth in commercial service agreements and residential referral volume.
Competitive base salary plus a performance incentive tied to revenue and gross margin across both channels. Benefits, vehicle or vehicle allowance, and paid time off per company policy. Specific compensation will be discussed based on experience and track record.
