Stars Behavioral Health Group in Long Beach, CA is seeking a Safety Specialist Coordinator to ensure a safe, supportive environment for clients and staff. The role involves access control, incident response, and ongoing training coordination for safety protocols.

The position offers on-site work with standard hours Tue–Sat, competitive hourly compensation, and opportunities for professional growth including paid CEU training and ProACT in-house training when applicable.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of relevant experience in a mental health field.
• Supervisory experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe environment for clients, visitors, staff and physicians.
• Screen incoming clients/visitors for contraband and monitor center safety procedures.
• Coordinate vehicle safety, maintenance, and driver training as needed.
• Assist in training Safety Specialists and ProACT procedures where applicable.

Education & Experience

What You Bring to SBHG (Qualifications):

• High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED, HiSET).
• Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in a mental health field.
• Supervisory experience is highly preferred.

Note: Relevant experience is defined as working with severely emotionally disturbed (SED) children and/or adults in an inpatient, outpatient, or hospital setting, or any environment where safety and security were the primary focus.

Certifications & Licensure

• Active Security Guard Registration with the California BSIS, OR the ability and commitment to successfully register within 90 days of employment.
• Valid CPR/BLS certification.
• Valid California Driver’s License with a clean DMV printout

How You Will Make a Difference (Job Overview)

The Safety Specialist Coordinator is responsible for providing a high level of customer service through maintaining a safe environment for all clients, visitors, staff and physicians. This care is provided through direct and indirect physical and verbal interactions with clients, modeling appropriate behaviors for clients, and monitoring daily client activities. She/he screens incoming clients/visitors for contraband and inventories all client property as well as monitoring surveillance equipment. The Safety Specialist Coordinator controls access to the center, answers/directs incoming clients, conducts physical security checks of the center grounds, and responds to fires and/or emergencies at the center. This position is responsible for assisting in the on-going training of Safety Specialists as it pertains to general safety procedures, safety policies, contraband processing, vehicle safety procedures, etc. This position is be responsible for assisting in the on-going training of Safety Specialists as it pertains to ProAct. This position is responsible for the on-going coordination of overall safety outfitting and maintenance for all vehicles. Is responsible for the on-going training of staff that are assigned to drive vehicles as it pertains to pre-driving safety checks, reporting vehicles issues, logging of such, etc. She/he may confirm and arrange all maintenance services and cleaning of vehicles. Will responsible for organizing and providing the vehicle safety notebooks, updated proof of insurance, and vehicle safety checklists in each vehicle. This position is also responsible for communicating safety trends, discrepancies, suggested improvements, etc. to the Program Director as necessary to maintain a safe and positive facility environment and vehicle operations. May be required to become a certified ProACT in-house trainer.

• Facility & Setting: 24/7 walk-in outpatient urgent care
• Clinical Services Rapid mental health evaluations, crisis intervention, and medication support
• Length of Stay: Short-term stabilization (up to 24 hours)
• Population Served: Serves up to 12 adults (18 + ) and 6 adolescents (ages 13-17)
