Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group in Long Beach, CA is seeking a Safety Specialist for the Long Beach Behavioral Health Urgent Care Center. The selected candidate will work Thur–Sat, 7:00 am to 7:30 pm, ensuring a safe, supportive environment for clients and staff.

The role offers starting wages of $18.00–$18.50 per hour, with comprehensive benefits, paid time off, and opportunities for CEUs and professional growth within a 24/7 urgent care setting.

Qualifications

• Must meet one of the following: High School Diploma or equivalent with 1 year of experience, or a BA degree in a related mental health field.
• Relevant experience with severely emotionally disturbed (SED) individuals in inpatient/outpatient settings or environments prioritizing safety and security.
• Active California BSIS Security Guard Registration or ability to register within 90 days; CPR/BLS certification; valid CA driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide high level customer service and maintain a safe environment for clients, visitors, staff and physicians.
• Screen incoming clients/visitors for contraband and inventory client property; monitor surveillance equipment.
• Control access to the center and respond to fires or emergencies.
• Maintain vigilance over the milieu to support quality client care and safe operations.

What You Bring to SBHG (Qualifications):

Education & Experience (Must meet one of the following):

• High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience required OR BA degree in a related mental health field

Note: Relevant experience is defined as working with severely emotionally disturbed (SED) children and/or adults in an inpatient, outpatient, or hospital setting, or any environment where safety and security were the primary focus.

Certifications & Licensure:

• Active Security Guard Registration with the California BSIS, OR the ability and commitment to successfully register within 90 days of employment.
• Valid CPR/BLS certification.
• Valid California Driver's License with a driving record that meets company eligibility policies.

How you will make a difference (Job Overview):

The Safety Specialist is responsible for providing a high level of customer service through maintaining a safe environment for all clients, visitors, staff and physicians. This care is provided through direct and indirect physical and verbal interactions with clients, modeling appropriate behaviors for clients, and monitoring daily client activities. She/he screens incoming clients/visitors for contraband and inventories all client property as well as monitoring surveillance equipment. The Safety Specialist controls access to the center, answers/directs incoming clients, conducts physical security checks of the center grounds, and responds to fires and/or emergencies at the center. Maintains vigilance over the general milieu within the facility to facilitate quality client care, optimum facility operations and preserve the safety of all therein.

Division & Program Overview:

• Facility & Setting: 24/7 walk-in outpatient urgent care
• Clinical Services: Rapid mental health evaluations, crisis intervention, and medication support
• Length of Stay: Short-term stabilization (up to 24 hours)
• Population Served: Serves up to 12 adults (18 + ) and 6 adolescents (ages 13-17)
