Job Overview

The Safety Security Officer/Residential Aide is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients, staff, and the property around the facility in a homeless shelter. This position reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections of all clients’ rooms.
• Escort clients to appointments as needed.
• Interact with and monitor clients’ behavior, maintaining good rapport and encouraging compliance with facility policies.
• Control access at the main entrance by screening all clients and visitors using magnetometer/x-ray machine to prevent weapons from entering.
• De-escalate potential crisis situations and document interventions.
• Conduct hourly rounds throughout the facility, including hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchen, and office spaces.
• Respond to incidents as needed.
• Assist with client intakes and property logging, including handling AWOL clients' belongings.
• Maintain organized storage of client property.
• Complete logs, incident reports, and other documentation.
• Coordinate with emergency responders when necessary.
• Perform administrative duties, monitor surveillance cameras, and manage fire alarm systems.
• Assist with fire safety procedures and evacuations.
• Ensure the safety of all equipment and perform other assigned tasks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and prior security experience.
• Valid NYS Security Guard License and current 8-Hour Annual Certificate.
• Fire Guard License for Shelters.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and overtime.
