Job Description

JOB TITLE: Safety Security Officer

FLSA: Non-Exempt

DIVISION: Services – Security

REPORTS TO: Shift Supervisor

Summary

The Safety Security Officer/Residential Aide is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients, staff, and the property around the facility in a homeless shelter. This position reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager of the Facility. Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations required.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Perform daily inspections of all clients’ rooms
2. Escort clients to appointments as needed
3. Interact with and monitor clients' behavior, maintaining good rapport by providing excellent customer service. Encourage clients to comply with facility policy and procedures.
4. Control access at the main entrance by screening all clients and visitors, utilizing a magnetometer/x-ray machine to detect and prevent weapons from entering the site.
5. Perform Crisis intervention to de-escalate potential crises and document all such situations and interventions.
6. Make hourly rounds throughout the facility, including all hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchen, and office spaces.
7. Respond to incidents
8. Assist with client intakes.
9. Perform daily pack-ups and logging of client property belonging to AWOL clients.
10. Store and remove client property once the mandated storage time has expired
11. Maintain a clean and organized storage area
12. Complete logs, incident reports, and all other required documentation.
13. Call police, fire department, and other first responders as directed.
14. At the operations desk, perform administrative and receptionist duties; monitor video surveillance cameras and the fire prevention/detection alarm notification system.
15. Provide duties related to fire incidents, evacuation of the building when necessary, and utilizing Fire procedures.
16. Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment.
17. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Experience, Education And Special Requirements

A high school diploma or GED and prior security experience are required. Must have NYS Security Guard License and current 8-hour Annual Certificate. Fire Guard License for Shelters. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred. Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime if necessary.
