Job Title: Safety Security Officer

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Division: Services – Security

Reports To: Shift Supervisor

Location: Queens

Salary: $19.25 per hour

Summary:

The Safety Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of clients, staff, and property within a homeless shelter setting. The populations served are single men and women. This position reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

Responsibilities:

• Perform daily inspections of all client rooms.
• Escort clients to appointments as needed.
• Monitor client behavior, interact positively, and enforce facility policies.
• Control access at the main entrance, screening visitors and clients with magnetometer/x-ray machines.
• De-escalate crises and document incidents and interventions.
• Conduct hourly rounds throughout the facility.
• Respond to incidents promptly.
• Assist with client intake processes.
• Log and manage client property, including storage and removal after mandated periods.
• Maintain organized storage areas.
• Complete logs, incident reports, and documentation.
• Coordinate with emergency services when necessary.
• Perform administrative duties, monitor surveillance, and fire alarm systems.
• Participate in fire safety procedures, including evacuation when needed.
• Ensure the safety of equipment and perform other assigned tasks.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED, security experience, and required licenses including NYS Security Guard License, 8-hour Annual Certificate, and Fire Guard License (F02). Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) and excellent communication skills are necessary. Flexibility to work various shifts, weekends, and overtime is required.
