Job Overview

The Safety Security Officer/Residential Aide is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients, staff, and the property around the facility in a homeless shelter. This position reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager. Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations is required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform daily inspections of all clients’ rooms.
2. Escort clients to appointments as needed.
3. Monitor client behavior, interact positively, and enforce facility policies.
4. Control access at the main entrance using screening tools.
5. De-escalate crisis situations and document interventions.
6. Conduct hourly rounds throughout the facility.
7. Respond to incidents and assist with client intakes.
8. Manage client property and logs.
9. Coordinate with emergency services when necessary.
10. Perform administrative duties, monitor surveillance, and fire alarm systems.
11. Participate in fire drills and evacuations.
12. Ensure the safety of equipment and perform other assigned tasks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous security experience.
• NY State Security Guard License and 8-hour annual certification.
• Fire Guard License for Shelters.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Preferred: Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI).
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and overtime.

Additional Information

Position details: Afternoon shift, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, full-time, 40 hours/week.
