Job summary

Discord is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Safety ML team, owning detection systems that protect 200M+ users and enable real-time enforcement decisions across the platform.

You will hire and mentor ML engineers, drive the technical vision and roadmap, coordinate with Trust & Safety, Product, Policy, Legal, and Data Science, and own the lifecycle of production safety models from definition to monitoring and scaling.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer, Data Scientist, or Applied Scientist.
• 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager leading 5+ engineers.
• Hands-on depth in abuse/fraud detection, content classification, behavioral modeling, graph-based modeling, or LLM-based classification.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
• Proven record of shipping ML systems to production at scale.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead an exceptional team of ML engineers, hiring and coaching with ownership.
• Drive the technical vision and roadmap for Safety ML with partners across Trust & Safety, Product, Policy, Legal, and Data Science.
• Own end-to-end lifecycle of production safety models, from capability definition to monitoring and scaling.
