Job summary

Discord’s Safety ML team builds models to protect 200M+ users, from real-time detection to batch analyses. We seek a highly technical Engineering Manager to own detection systems between attackers and users and to lead end-to-end production ML workflows.

You will hire, coach, and empower ML engineers, shaping the technical vision with partners across Trust & Safety, Product, Policy, Legal, and Data Science. You’ll mentor the team while contributing code when needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer, Data Scientist, or Applied Scientist.
• 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager overseeing 5+ engineers.
• Hands-on depth in abuse/fraud detection, content classification, or related ML modeling.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Proven track record shipping ML systems to production at scale.
• Willingness to roll up sleeves and code when needed.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead an exceptional ML engineering team through hiring, coaching, and ownership.
• Drive the technical vision and roadmap for Safety ML with cross-functional partners.
• Own end-to-end production safety models, from new capabilities to monitoring.
• Improve processes and raise the bar to deliver extraordinary results.
• Collaborate on label quality and automated investigations with Trust & Safety.
• Work with other Engineering Managers to improve the engineering org and uphold our workplace philosophy.
