Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Safety Engineer I to implement the Zero Injury Safety program at project sites, ensuring a safe environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors. You will lead safety trainings, monitor incidents, and coordinate with client safety personnel, unions, and risk engineers.

Required are a degree in safety/health (or HS with CHST/STS/OSHA 30) and proven experience in safety program administration. Travel up to 100% is anticipated as part of this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in occupational safety, health, or related field preferred.
• High school diploma, CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30 Hour training with minimum five years of continuous construction experience
• Experience administering safety programs, hazard analyses, developing controls, implementing safeguards, and contributing to safe work activity plans
• Previous related internship experience a plus
• Current driver's license
• Detail orientation to organize and manage multiple project tasks
• Ability to work in Microsoft Office and safety-related software programs
• Positive and professional attitude, strong customer service skills
• Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies to team members and outside parties
• Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, leadership skills
• Effective public speaking and presentation skills
• Active listening skills and effective communication, openness to diverse input and feedback
• Ability to travel up to 100%

Responsibilities

• Implement and administer safety programs at each worksite and conduct safety training
• Document safety violations and audits, analyze safety indicators
• Record and analyze safety/injury statistics; coordinate OSHA reporting
• Review partner work plans for safety; assist injury management; manage return-to-work
• Organize safety trainings and resources; assess industrial hygiene
• Maintain safety standards knowledge; be resource for safety issues; ensure PPE maintenance
• Interface with client safety personnel and unions; accompany site tours
• Manage safety budget and meetings
