Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a Safety Ambassador for the 2nd shift in Columbia, SC. You will patrol zones on foot or by bike, assist pedestrians, and deter quality-of-life crimes while remaining friendly and professional. Training is provided; 18+ with a HS diploma or GED is required. Outdoor work in all conditions is expected.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot or bike.

• Report unwanted behavior to authorities with clear descriptions.
• Deter low-level quality-of-life crimes politely and firmly.
• Engage with pedestrians with a friendly greeting and assist with city information.
• Visit zone businesses to share information and gather contact details.

Job Description

Pay Range: $17.50to $17.50 per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Payday!)

Shift/Schedule:

• 3:00pm to 11:30pm
• Weekend and Holiday availability REQUIRED

What You'll Be Doing :

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/ or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior and activity.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities via established communication methods. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons violating low-level quality-of-life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and city information.
• Responsible for making a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

Requirements

Requirements:

• Experience preferred . We will train.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse (including riding a bike) continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
