Job summary

Block by Block is hiring Community Ambassadors in Nevada to patrol designated zones, engage with the public, and keep spaces clean and safe. The role emphasizes walking the area, interacting with pedestrians, and performing cleanup tasks to improve overall appearance and safety.

Responsibilities

• Traverse the designated zone on foot to improve appearance and safety.
• Engage pedestrians with directions and city info.
• Use tools to remove litter and clean outdoor surfaces.
• Pull weeds from trees, cracks, sidewalks, and lots.
• Operate a pressure washer to clean sidewalks and streets.
• Operate a litter vacuum to collect litter and debris.
• Ask for compliance with low-level offenses in a courteous manner.
• Identify unhoused individuals and connect them with relevant services.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Traverse the designated zone on foot, bicycle, or vehicle to provide a high level of visibility and to carry out a variety of tasks to improve the overall appearance and safety of the area.
• Engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile to provide directions and city info.
• Use a bag and picker to remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, etc. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, etc. Clean outdoor surfaces.
• Pulls weeds from the base of trees, in cracks in the sidewalks/lots, etc.
• Operates a pressure washer to clean sidewalks, streets, and other areas.
• Operate a kaboda or litter vacuum to sweep up litter, debris, leaves, etc.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons committing low-level crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
• Identifies unhoused individuals in need, establishes relationships, and introduces them to agencies to help meet their needs. Establishes mutual respect to reduce the public nuisance perception of homelessness.

Requirements

Requirements:

• Experience preferred, but not required. We will train.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
