Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a friendly, outdoor-focused Cleaning Ambassador in Norfolk, VA. You will help keep streets clean, engage with the public, and provide directions and city information. A valid driver's license is required, and you will work a stable first shift.

We offer weekly pay, pay advances, PTO, free uniforms, and an employee assistance program. Prior experience is welcome but not required; training is provided to help you succeed in this fast-paced, community-facing role.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred, but training provided.
• Must have a HS Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone.
• Acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting.
• Remove litter and graffiti from streets, sidewalks, and alleys.
• Pull weeds at tree wells and cracks in sidewalks.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces.
• Complete daily reports using basic English.

Pay Range: $18.50to $18.50 per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Payday!)

Shift/Schedule:

• Tues. - Sat. from 6:30am to 3:00pm
• Sun. - Thu. from 6:30am to 3:00pm

What You'll Be Doing :

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
