Job summary

Amazon S3 is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a team responsible for the S3 Indexing system, driving scalable, durable, and available metadata services at massive scale.

You will mentor engineers, own architectural decisions, and partner across S3 to tackle complex challenges while delivering high-impact software that aligns with AWS standards for security, durability, and performance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience.
• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of talented software engineers, creating structures that enable them to solve complex problems and deliver high-impact solutions while fostering their growth and professional development.
• Own team-wide architectural decisions and technical direction for a high-visibility S3-wide initiative, ensuring quality software aligned with Amazon's engineering best practices while making appropriate trade-offs between tactical needs and strategic goals.
• Create mechanisms and metrics that enable you to explain your team's performance and identify opportunities to improve customer experiences.
• Partner with engineering leaders across S3 to identify and address complex technical challenges, evaluating downstream impacts and architectural cohesiveness.
