Job summary

The Salvation Army Newark ARC is seeking a Production Assistant (Truck Driver) to complete driving routes for pickup and drop off of donations at the warehouse, donor boxes, and donor homes. You will operate safely and maintain vehicle and cargo.

You will plan daily routes, load and unload goods, keep logs and manifests, supervise the Truck Helper, and assist thrift-store staff. The role supports the work therapy program and requires professional conduct and courteous customer service.

Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate effectively.
• Valid driver’s license for assigned vehicles and acceptable DMV record.
• Must pass driving test.
• Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
• Must be able to read maps and plan daily routes.

Responsibilities

• Ensure security and safe operation of the vehicle and equipment; report accidents and complete paperwork.
• Perform daily vehicle walk-around inspections and report problems.
• Keep truck cab and box clean; remove personal items daily.
• Plan daily routing based on pickups and calls scheduled.
• Develop assigned routes, including bagging/carding, as instructed.
• Represent The Salvation Army professionally with courteous service; follow the Production Assistants Manual; report pickups problems to dispatcher.
• Maintain professional appearance per dress code and keep accurate records (delivery manifests, trip logs, etc.).
• Load and unload goods; secure items using blankets and ropes; avoid excessive movement during transit.
• Assist Thrift Store personnel with item placement and store duties; supervise Truck Helper in rehabilitation context.
• Support work therapy program by modeling professional conduct and work habits.
