Job summary

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Portland, ME is seeking a Production Assistant (Truck Driver) to complete pickup and donation drop-off routes from the warehouse and donor homes. You will ensure safe vehicle operation, perform daily inspections, maintain logs, and support thrift store logistics.

The role includes customer service, professional appearance, route planning, and supervising a Truck Helper in a rehabilitation program, with a 40-hour work week, Monday–Friday, 7:30

Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate effectively.
• Must have a valid driver’s license for assigned vehicles and an acceptable DMV record.
• Must pass a driving test.
• Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
• Must be able to read maps and plan and prioritize daily route coverage.
• Must be able to use iPad with GPS, texting and truck inspection report.
• Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Medical card required depending on city/state requirements.
• DOT physical clearance required; failure to pass may terminate employment.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment.
• Perform daily walk around inspection of vehicle and report issues.
• Ensure truck cab and box are clean and free of personal items.
• Plan daily routing based on pickups and make all calls scheduled.
• Develop assigned route and manage loads to optimize space.
• Represent The Salvation Army with courteous service and follow the manual for Production Assistants.
• Maintain professional appearance per dress code.
• Maintain records such as delivery manifests and trip logs.
• Assist Thrift Store staff in item placement and cleanup.
• Instruct and supervise Truck Helper in a rehabilitation program.
