The incumbent supervises staff, ensures data accuracy, conducts performance evaluations and enforces confidentiality standards under HIPAA and FOIA.

The role includes coordinating personnel actions, monitoring deadlines, and providing guidance to senior HIM leadership.

Responsibilities

• Serves as supervisor and technical expert for the Release of Information Unit.
• Provides guidance to the Chief, HIM and Assistant, Chief HIM regarding staffing needs within the ROI section.
• Provides guidance and technical direction for accomplishing the work of the unit or team.
• Performs audits and monitors to assure data is processed accurately and timely by all employees.
• Reviews work, assesses quality, quantity, accuracy and timeliness; identifies problems and takes corrective action.
• Develops performance standards and conducts performance evaluations and competency assessments.
• Manages personnel functions: interviews, selection, training, development, awards or disciplinary action, leave and work schedules.
• Implements EEO programs to ensure fair treatment; processes promotions, reassignments, and grievances at the first level.
• Maintains compliance with Privacy Act, FOIA, HIPAA, and AMIE in ROI activities.
• Coordinates record retrieval and transfers to VA facilities for continuity of patient care; communicates with VARO on related matters.
• Performs 100% quality review of TORT cases prior to sending records to VARO for litigation; prepares weekly ROI and TORT statistics.
• Monitors workload and production; ensures quality and productivity; manages deadlines.
