Job summary

VA Illiana Health Care System invites applications for a Medical Records Technician (ROI) in the Health Information Management (HIM) section. The MRT reviews and processes requests for patient PHI and provides direct customer service to Veterans and authorized third parties.

Qualified candidates will have experience with medical terminology, health records, and privacy laws. Education alternatives with transcripts are described; non-citizens may be appointed where allowed.

Qualifications

• One year of creditable experience with medical terminology and health records.
• Six months of the required one year must provide KSAs (knowledge, skills, and abilities).
• Education options with transcripts required (associate or bachelor with health information management focus).
• Equivalency substitutions include health information courses and approved military training; transcripts required.

Responsibilities

• Review and process requests for patient PHI and copies of PHI.
• Provide direct customer service to Veterans and authorized third parties.
• Operate and navigate health information systems for release of information.
• Ensure compliance with privacy laws and release of information policies.
