Job summary

Relativity Space is hiring for a design engineer to guide Terran R mechanism concepts, stage separation and deployment systems. You will work across structures, avionics and fluids teams, applying additive processes to enable rapid, manufacturable designs on a fast‑paced development timeline.

You will own design cycles from conceptualization through testing, with opportunities to influence product choices and manufacturing strategies in a high‑stakes rocket program.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering or related field.
  • 0-2+ years of experience in a full-cycle design engineering role, including CAD, analysis, build and test.
  • Fundamental knowledge of kinematic synthesis, pneumatic/hydraulic actuation, mechatronics and instrumentation.
  • Fundamental knowledge of structures strength, stability and fatigue failure modes.
  • Technical problem-solving, manufacturing processing, materials, surface treatments and hands-on hardware build experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead discussions on complex technical topics.

Responsibilities

  • Design and test Terran R mechanisms such as stage separation, payload deployment, aero control features and landing gear.
  • Collaborate with structures, avionics and fluids groups to integrate subsystems.
  • Lead conceptualization, trade studies, design, analysis, manufacturing and testing of components.
  • Evaluate design criteria, subsystem requirements and material properties to ensure manufacturability.
  • Work with vehicle design, test and loads teams and additive manufacturing groups to deliver on time and budget.
