Job summary

Relativity Space in Long Beach is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Mechanisms) to lead the full design, build, and test lifecycle of Terran R mechanisms from concept to flight readiness. You will collaborate across structures, avionics, and fluids teams and own design criteria, trades, and manufacturability for fast-paced, high-impact projects.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering and 5+ years in a full-cycle design role, with strong CAD, analysis, and hands-on hardware

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years in a full cycle design engineering role (CAD, analysis, build and test).
  • Fundamental knowledge of kinematic synthesis, pneumatic/hydraulic actuation, mechatronics and instrumentation.
  • Fundamental knowledge of structures strength, stability and fatigue failure modes.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and surface treatments.
  • Proven track record of technical problem-solving and hands-on hardware build experience.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to lead discussions on complex technical topics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full design, build, and test lifecycle of Terran R mechanisms from concept to flight readiness.
  • Collaborate across structures, avionics, and fluids teams to design and optimize mechanisms.
  • Guide design criteria, subsystems requirements, and trade studies for manufacturability and speed.
  • Deliver on time and budget while integrating subsystems within the primary structure.
