Job summary

Relativity Space is seeking a senior design engineer for the Structures and Mechanisms team to guide design, analysis, manufacturing and testing of Terran R mechanisms. You will lead a full design cycle from concept through flight-ready hardware, collaborating with structures, avionics and fluids teams to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.

The role requires 5+ years in a full cycle design engineering role, strong fundamentals in kinematic synthesis, actuation and mechatronics, and

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is required.
5+ years of experience in a full cycle design engineering role (CAD, analysis, build and test).
Fundamental knowledge of kinematic synthesis, actuation, mechatronics and instrumentation.
Fundamental knowledge of structures strength, stability and fatigue failure modes.
Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and surface treatments.
Proven track record of technical problem-solving and hands-on hardware build experience.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead discussions on complex topics.

Responsibilities

Guide the design, build and test lifecycle of Terran R mechanisms and associated subsystems.
Perform design studies, trade analyses, and design criteria definitions for mechanisms and actuation.
Collaborate with structures, avionics and fluids teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
Lead design reviews, qualification testing, and manufacturability improvements.
Mentor and coordinate cross-functional team members across the project.
