Job summary

Relativity Space is seeking an experienced design engineer to guide Terran R mechanisms, including stage separation and payload deployment. You will collaborate across structures, avionics, and fluids teams to deliver mechanical systems from concept through testing.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, owning projects end-to-end with a focus on manufacturability and speed, applying CAD, analysis, and hand-on hardware build skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in a full cycle design engineering role, including CAD, analysis, build and test.
• Fundamental knowledge of kinematic synthesis, pneumatic/hydraulic actuation, mechatronics and instrumentation.
• Fundamental knowledge of structures strength, stability and fatigue failure modes.
• Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and surface treatments.
• Proven track record of technical problem‑solving and hands‑on hardware build experience.
• Communication and interpersonal skills to lead discussions on complex technical topics.

Responsibilities

• Guide the design of Terran R mechanisms such as stage separation and payload deployment.
• Collaborate with structures, avionics and fluids teams across the full design cycle.
• Deliver on time and budget while advancing manufacturability and speed.
• Lead own projects with autonomy in a fast-paced environment.
• Evaluate trade studies and make design recommendations to leadership.
