Job summary

Relativity Space is seeking a design engineer for the Structures and Mechanisms team to guide the design of Terran R mechanisms, including stage separation, deployment systems, and landing gear actuation. You will work with structures, avionics, fluids, and the additive process teams to deliver robust hardware from concept through testing.

The role emphasizes ownership in a fast-paced environment, hands-on hardware build, and strong collaboration to meet schedule and performance goals for Terran

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in a full cycle design engineering role, including CAD, analysis, build and test.
• Fundamental knowledge of kinematic synthesis, pneumatic/hydraulic actuation, mechatronics and instrumentation.
• Fundamental knowledge of structures strength, stability and fatigue failure modes.
• Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and surface treatments.
• Proven track record of technical problem-solving and hands-on hardware build experience.
• Communication and interpersonal skills to lead discussions on complex technical topics.

Responsibilities

• Design and test the Terran R mechanisms such as stage separation and deployment systems.
• Collaborate with structures, avionics, and fluids groups to integrate designs.
• Lead design cycles from conceptualization through analysis, manufacturing, and testing.
• Define design criteria and subsystem requirements and perform trade studies.
• Support manufacturability improvements and fast iterative builds.
