Job summary

Framatome in Lynchburg, VA is hiring a Robotic Software Engineer- Perception and Autonomy to advance autonomy for nuclear-inspection robots. You will design and test perception, localization, and planning systems for teleoperated mobile robots, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

You will contribute to hardware-in-the-loop work, simulate-to-real validation, and deployment strategies, shaping future robotic platforms and ensuring robust software across Windows and Linux environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, engineering or related field; equivalent work experience considered.
• Minimum of 2 years of related robotics software experience.
• Hands-on software development for Windows and Linux; experience with Git, logging, and containerized deployment; ROS2 preferred.
• Direct experience in mobile robotics: vision, state estimation, localization, sensor fusion.

Responsibilities

• Independently design, debug, test, and review robotics systems with hardware-in-the-loop and sim-to-real environments.
• Build, configure, and integrate subsystems for sensor fusion, perception, and remote autonomous deployment.
• Prototype and mature robot localization and state estimation, including visual-inertial odometry and SLAM.
• Develop and tune trajectory planning for mobile robots using cost maps and planners.
• Diagnose sensor integration, timing, frame issues, and system failures.
• As you grow, take ownership of an application and provide technical leadership.
• Mentor and guide less experienced software engineers.
