Job summary

The Toro Company in Bloomington, MN is seeking a Robotics Engineer to own major autonomous features and robotic subsystems, including localization, planning, and control pipelines. You will independently plan and conduct verification and validation activities, perform root-cause analysis, and mentor junior engineers.

You will collaborate with Perception, Embedded, and Safety teams to deliver robust robotic systems designed for reliable field performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, robotics, computer science, or a related technical field.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Robotics Engineer II: 2-4 years of relevant professional experience.
• Robotics Engineer III: 4-7 years of relevant professional experience.
• Robotics Engineer IV: 7-10 years of relevant professional experience.
• Robotics Engineer V: 10-12+ years of relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Own and advance major autonomy features and robotic subsystems, including localization, planning, and control pipelines.
• Develop and optimize SLAM solutions using 2D/3D data, LiDAR, and vision technologies, including loop closure and map optimization.
• Design robust multisensor fusion systems using techniques such as EKF, UKF, and factor graphs.
• Develop advanced planning and control capabilities, including model predictive control, linear quadratic regulation, trajectory tracking, and model identification.
• Plan and execute experiments and verification activities, establishing key performance indicators for accuracy, latency, reliability, and real-time performance.
• Conduct failure-mode and root-cause analyses while incorporating safety concepts for autonomous operation.
• Support system integration and bring-up on embedded computing platforms, including NVIDIA and ARM architectures.
• Collaborate with suppliers and external partners and contribute to code reviews and engineering standards.
• Coach and mentor Level I and Level II engineers.
