Job summary

WSB is seeking a Transportation Design Intern for Summer 2027 to work with engineers and project teams on transportation infrastructure projects, gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative environment.

You will learn transportation design standards, engineering practices, and project delivery processes while contributing to active projects and developing technical and professional skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering or related engineering program.
• Entering Junior or Senior year during the internship.
• Interest in transportation design and infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or similar software is a plus.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design and preparation of plans for transportation projects, including roadways, highways, intersections, trails, and related infrastructure.
• Support engineers with design calculations, cost estimates, traffic analyses, and technical evaluations.
• Assist in the preparation of reports, specifications, permit applications, and other project documentation.
• Review engineering drawings, plans, and technical documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design standards.
• Participate in project meetings, site visits, field observations, and data collection activities.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, planners, and other disciplines to deliver high-quality transportation solutions.
• Support project coordination, research, and the development of design alternatives.
• Assist with the use of industry software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or other transportation design tools.
• Learning transportation design standards, engineering practices, and project delivery processes while contributing to active projects.
• Supporting the development of safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation systems for public and private clients.
