Job summary

ATCS invites motivated students to join the 2027 Summer Internship Program in Richmond, VA, supporting our Transportation Design team. As a Transportation Design Intern, you’ll work with engineers on roadway and transportation infrastructure projects, developing your technical skills and gaining hands‑on experience.

The program runs May/June through August 2027. You’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, assist with design plans and data analysis, and participate in meetings to understand

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Interest in transportation engineering, roadway design, and transportation infrastructure.
• Previous coursework related to transportation, roadway design, or civil engineering design is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supporting engineers with the planning and design of roadway and transportation projects.
• Assisting with the preparation of design plans, drawings, calculations, and other project deliverables.
• Using engineering and design software to support roadway design and plan development.
• Assisting with the collection, organization, and analysis of project data.
• Supporting design tasks related to roadway geometry, grading, drainage, and other transportation improvements.
• Collaborating with engineers and other team members to complete project tasks.
• Participating in project meetings and gaining exposure to the day‑to‑day work of a transportation design team.
• Assisting with other technical and administrative tasks as needed.
